(No) Refunds

Edinburgh Fringe Review 15th August 2026

Rating: 4 out of 5.

(No) Refunds is an interactive game show hosted by the glamorous and gloriously no-nonsense Tiffany Gold.

Before each performance, one audience member is chosen as the evening’s Star Player, competing for the chance to win back the cost of their ticket. Three wheels are spun, determining the three tasks they must attempt and how much of a refund each successful challenge will earn.

It is a wonderfully simple setup with an enormous number of possible outcomes. The combination of different challenges, three random spins and a new contestant every evening means that no two performances can ever be quite the same.

Naturally, a show this dependent on audience participation comes with an element of risk. One Star Player might be a born entertainer, while another might freeze beneath the lights. Fortunately, Tiffany is more than capable of keeping proceedings moving regardless. With her dazzling red dress, old school showbiz glamour and magnificently commanding manner, she encourages, cajoles and gently needles her contestant while never surrendering control of the room.

On the night I attended, the evening’s Star Player was YouTuber Quintin Smith, creator of Quinns Quest. Smith sportingly threw himself into the challenges, despite some understandable hesitation. These included a hurried drawing task performed under Tiffany’s watchful and wonderfully expressive eye. The result was less polished artwork than inspired chaos, which was precisely the point.

Another task required him to find a stranger in the audience and discover some connection between them. Quintin lives in Brighton and, although he did not know it at the time, I am from Brighton too. I volunteered, thinking I could offer him an easy victory. Unfortunately for him, he selected somebody with whom finding common ground proved considerably more challenging.

His increasingly awkward attempts to make a connection were hilarious, and I enjoyed watching him navigate every uncomfortable interaction on stage. The final challenge was more awkward still and involved becoming intimate (with consent) with another complete stranger. It is difficult to explain without having been in the room. You really had to be there.

The games may supply the structure, but Tiffany is the show’s real prize. Her quick improvisation turns unpredictable contributions into comedy, while her ability to judge the contestant prevents the audience participation from becoming uncomfortable for the wrong reasons. Beneath the sequins and exaggerated game show theatrics, there is also an unexpectedly affectionate celebration of people being brave enough to make fools of themselves in public.

Unpredictable, playful and skilfully held together, (No) Refunds captures something essential about the Fringe and the Arts in general. Take a chance, embrace the possibility of disaster and hope that, by the end, everyone feels they received their money’s worth.

(No) refunds? I have no regrets in catching this wildly unpredictable and fun show.
