Synopsis: A Chelsea manor. A showroom in Slough. A toilet with murder on his mind. This is Arsehole’s story. And he’s not chatting shite. Join him on a tale of forbidden love and international espionage; secrets, betrayal and bloody revenge.

My review: Louis appears on stage in a white suit, white shirt and tie, sitting on a white folding chair. Around him are a medicine cabinet, a bottle of mouthwash, and a bowl containing rubber gloves and a cleaning cloth.

We soon learn that Louis is playing a white porcelain toilet, yes, you read that correctly. Not only is he a toilet, but he is a sentient one, fully aware of what is happening around him and to him.

He finds himself installed in the expensive Chelsea home of a Russian oligarch, back when Russian money was still welcomed in London. Over five years, he witnesses the familiar things toilets are used for, alongside far less ordinary behaviour: people snorting cocaine from him, having sex, and carrying out various acts of corruption and violence.

He falls in love with the oligarch’s wife, while we hear about her affair with an agent. From there, the story expands into imagined sex, murders, regurgitation, baby cisterns, and enemies who evolve from war criminals into bloggers.

Louis maintains the pace throughout. His enthusiasm and ability to tell such an extraordinary story keep the audience engaged and entertained. It is surreal, funny and genuinely different, and that is exactly what makes it work.

There were a few moments when I wasn’t entirely sure where the narrative was going, but the sheer energy and strangeness of the performance carried me along.

If you’re looking for something genuinely different, Louis’s Arsehole is surreal, funny and utterly engaging!
