Edinburgh Fringe Review 17th August 2026
I’ve had terrible neighbours and good neighbours. Obviously, the good ones are what we all want, and Jake is one of the good ones.
Before the show, everyone is invited to write something they would like help with on a slip of paper. It can be anything. Jake then begins by telling stories from his life as a neighbour. These are not just any old stories, but tales of helping the people who live near him, and even a cat.
Every so often, he pauses the storytelling, pulls an audience member’s request from a bucket at random and has a lovely, friendly chat with them. He then does his best to help, whether during the show or even afterwards.
We discover that his desire to help may come partly from his own insecurities, something many of us can probably relate to, and that helping others seems to be good for his soul. Who are we to argue?
There needs to be more kindness and consideration in the world, especially today. I was thoroughly entertained by Jake’s stories and came away feeling better about humanity. Plaudits to him for giving something back. Hopefully, the show will give everyone else a boost too, and perhaps inspire someone to pass that kindness on.
A lovely, generous show that I cannot recommend highly enough.
