Soho Theatre London Review 22nd August 2026 – Edinburgh Fringe Preview

Rating: 5 out of 5.

A fabulous and funny hour about the hours in Chris’s day.

I have just seen Chris Parker at Soho Theatre in Take A Good Hard Look At Me, a hilarious hour of comedy heading to Edinburgh Fringe for the final week of the festival.

Chris arrives carrying a stack of cardboard slides, each displaying a time of day and revealing what he would typically be doing at that moment with his husband and dog in New Zealand. It sounds as though it could be incredibly dull, but Chris makes every part of his apparently ordinary routine hugely entertaining.

He races through stories with infectious energy, constantly getting sidetracked and barely seeming to pause for breath. Coincidentally, one of those diversions involves kids playing underwater games to see how long they can go without breathing, which feels rather appropriate given the speed at which Chris delivers the show.

The show feels spontaneous and gloriously chaotic, but Chris remains completely in control. The hour flew by, which is always a good sign, and I could happily have listened to him for another. I am so glad I had the chance to see Chris, especially as he has come all the way from New Zealand. If you are in Edinburgh for the final week of the Fringe, do not miss the opportunity to catch him while he is here.
